Getting to Las Limas
There are a number of ways to get to Las Limas from the United Kingdom or other parts of Spain - by road, rail and air. In all cases it is recommended to hire a car because the road from Jimena de la Frontera to the cortijo is steep, somewhat potholed and approximately two kilometres long.
The nearest airport to Las Limas is Gibraltar, about 50 minutes drive. Malaga and Jerez airports are both about 90 minutes drive in opposite directions. Monarch, EasyJet, British Airways and Thomson Flights all fly into either one, both or all of the airports listed above. Check their websites for flight details and bookings. On arrival hire a car and drive to Las Limas using the directions below.
Rail is a fantastic way to travel and, with fast trains between London, Paris and Madrid, it needn't take too long. Make the journey part of the holiday and take the most eco-friendly form of transport. Use Seat61* to plan and book the journey, which should take just over 24 hours including an overnight train-hotel from Paris to Madrid and a day to enjoy the sights of Madrid. Follow the instructions for travelling from London to Gibraltar but change at Ronda for trains to Estacion Jimena. Use the instructions below to get to Las Limas from Estacion Jimena or contact us to arrange car hire in Jimena or to be collected from the station. Please confirm with the various rail operators before travel that all sections of the journey are running.
Take the A7 or AP7 coast road towards San Roque or if from Gibraltar the CA-34 towards San Roque. Turn onto the A-405 at San Roque and drive North for approximately 37km following signs for Jimena and Gaucin. Drive through Estacion Jimena (Los Angeles) and after approximately 4km turn left at the sign for Jimena de la Frontera. Drive up the hill towards the town centre until you see the Supermarket Ruiz Gallan on the left and Bar Cuenca on the right. Turn left at the supermarket, down the hill past the Guardia Civil barracks and over the narrow bridge crossing the Rio Hozgarganta, you are now entering Los Alcornocales Natural Park (Parque Natural Los Alcornocales). Take the right hand fork at the tumbledown farm and continue up the hill for approximately 1.75km. The entrance to Las Limas is a large wrought iron gate on the left of a hairpin bend. Welcome.
