Spectacular scenery, wild flowers in Spring and autumn and the famous bird migration in spring and autumn make Las Limas the ideal location for a walking holiday.
Las Limas is located in the World’s largest Cork Oak Nature Park. It is surrounded by wonderful walking country to include ancient castles, white villages, and river valleys.
The walks are guided and include the following:
Walk to Jimena Castle and Moorish Queen’s Bath.
A half day tour from Las Limas down to the River and along by the 18th Century aqueduct and cannon ball factory. Then climb to the castle for a short tour to visit the Roman site of Jimean and the rock cut Moorish Queens Bath.
Return through the village stopping for welcome coffee, tea or fino!
Watermill Walk. Full Day with Picnic
Walk down to the River from Las Limas and follow the western side of the river. Trek up the pathway to the Old Mill and explore the old wokings of this grain mill. Swimm in the mill pond ( optional) and picnic.
Climb on up into the hills behind and through the Alcornocales park. Birds and flowers are delight plus spectacular views as you reach open ground.
Walk down the track and back to Las Limas for tea.
Cork Oak Forest Walk. Half Day.
Walk up the hill from Las Limas and enter the forest along a simple track. Follow the contour through magnificent Cork Oaks with spectacular views across unspoilt countryside to Gibraltar and the white villages. Lots of bird life and wild flowers in the spring. Maybe there will be sightings of deer and European mongoose.
Eventually the route turns down towards the railway. Across the other side is the river. The track follows this and returns towards Jimena. Climb back to Las Limas through open fields or go into Jimena for a Tapas Lunch or an evening fino!
River Walk with a River Swim. Half Day
A delightful river walk along the wild parts of the river below Las Limas. Great opportunities for bird watching and wild flowers (season permitting). There are several clear springs which form pools for swimming (season and weather permitting)
A bit of a climb at one point gives some lovely views.
A great walk on a hot day!
Vulture Lookout Walk. Half Day
A chance to climb through the cork Oak Woods to a high point known as Vulture’s Lookout. Great views and maybe sightings of Griffon Vultures, short toed and booted Eagles or even the migration ( March-April and Sept- Oct) Honey Buzzards, swifts, kites, lesser kestrel, rollers, beaters and many more.
The Waterfall Walk. Full Day with picnic.
Advanced booking needed
A walk from Las Limas through a private ranch to a lovely waterfall. Best Feb,Marchand April or Oct, Nov when the waterfall performs. The route is through magnificent cork oak forest and fields of flowers ( season March April). Wonderful views across wild countryside. It is deer country and maybe mongoose, fox and badger and the very rare gennet cat. Good birdlife. Picnic by the waterfall and maybe a swim ( weather permitting.)
Bronze Age Cave Paintings Walk. A full day with picnic.
Advanced booking needed.
High in the hills and deep in the Nature Park, looking down towards Jimena is a cave with rock paintings dating from the Bronze Age. The paintings are of boats and deer.
Well worth a walk through farmland and Cork Oak forest. It takes about three hours to reach the caves from Las Limas. Stop for a picnic before returning on a circular route to las Limas.
